• এটির অর্থ মূল verb থেকে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা হয়।

• একই verb-এর সাথে ভিন্ন ভিন্ন Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে ভিন্ন ভিন্ন অর্থ তৈরি করতে পারে।

  • Example (Look):

    • Look for: খোঁজা (Search).

    • Look into: তদন্ত করা (Investigate).

    • Look down upon: ঘৃণা করা (Hate/Despise).

ক) Transitive Phrasal verbs:

এদের অর্থ প্রকাশের জন্য একটি Object-এর প্রয়োজন হয়।

• Example: You should give up smoking. ('Smoking' এখানে Object)।

খ) Intransitive Phrasal verbs:

এদের কোনো Object-এর প্রয়োজন হয় না।

• Example: The car broke down. (গাড়িটি বিকল হয়ে গেল)।

গ) Separable Phrasal verbs:

কিছু ক্ষেত্রে verb এবং Preposition-এর মাঝখানে Object বসানো যায়।

• Example: Turn the light off. (অথবা Turn off the light)।

  • Present: He looks after his parents.

  • Past: He looked after his parents.

• একাধিক Preposition-ও থাকতে পারে (যেমন: Put up with - সহ্য করা)।
